Race day at the NitrOlympX again took place under sunny skies and the event ran to completion thanks to the hard work of race officials and the co-operation of the racers after some lengthy on-track delays.<\/p>\n

In the car classes, Switzerland\u2019s FIA Top Fuel Dragster winner Jndia Erbacher rode out a large engine fire and held on to take the win over the UK\u2019s Liam Jones. Sweden\u2019s Susanne Callin did not contest Top Fuel today after suffering severe damage to her car\u2019s rear axle amongst other items. Silvio Strauch took the event title in FIA Top Methanol after the team were up into the small hours installing their spare engine, whilst the Netherlands\u2019 David Vegter and team similarly stayed up late to swap engines only to find that the replacement motor would not start for the first round of eliminations. Germany\u2019s Norbert Kuno achieved the feet of lifting all four wheels of his Dodge Avenger off the track after a particularly violent launch. Also in Pro Modified a long clean-up was necessary after the converter split open in The Netherlands\u2019 Michel Tooren\u2019s Camaro. As automatic transmission fluid is particularly nasty to shift, the track crew had to remove a layer of the track surface to be sure that the raceway was safe.<\/p>\n

The final of Pro Modified was decided on a rarely-invoked First or Worst rule after The Netherlands\u2019 Marck Harteveld left the start line before the green light which would usually have been enough to disqualify him; however, Finland\u2019s Jere Rantaniemi then hit a track fixture which was deemed a worse infraction handing Marck the event title. Another rare event occurred in FIA Pro Stock eliminations when an explosion blew the hood scoop clean off Swede Michael Malmgren\u2019s Pontiac GXP.<\/p>\n

Super Pro ET racer, Finland\u2019s Veli Koivula suffered a huge explosion whilst pulling to the start line; safety crews rushed to Veli\u2019s aid and extricated him from the kit car before taking him to the medical centre to be checked out. Better news for Italy\u2019s Roberto Bonasso who recorded a perfect elapsed time in Pro eliminations, dialling-in an 11.20 and running 11.200. Also in Pro ET, the UK\u2019s Jake Fronda drove the whole quarter mile with his front bonnet raised almost vertical after it came unlatched upon landing from a huge wheelie.<\/p>\n

On two wheels, Germany\u2019s Lennart Tomczyk was thrown off his bike as it slipped over near the finish line. Safety crews sped to the scene where Lennart was standing to meet them.\u00a0Malta\u2019s Luke Farrugia set low elapsed time of the event in FIM Europe Super Street Bike with a 6.701 in eliminations. Finland\u2019s Mikko Rajaniemi similarly set low ET in FIM Europe Top Fuel Bike with a 6.209 in the second round. However, overall low ET honours on two wheels this weekend went to Denmark\u2019s Marcus Christiansen with a 6.191 in the semi-finals of FIM Europe Supertwin.<\/p>\n
