“Race your Ride” is being held for the 15th time on Hockenheimring’s Rico Anthes Quarter Mile on 10 and 11 August 2019. What once began as a pure “Test & Tune” event in preparation for the NitrOlympX, which always took place a week later, has now become the ultimate driving pleasure for all private racers. Tuning your own vehicle under professional conditions and competing head-to-head against evenly matched opponents in a sprint is a very special highlight for all amateur motor sports enthusiasts.
Sprint over the Quarter Mile
Sprint racing refers to accelerating from a standstill over the distance of a quarter mile (exactly 402.33 metres). The race is started by a traffic light signal and then reaction time, split times, top speed and finish time are measured. The final starting grid for the individual races is based on the respective training best times. Two vehicles of a comparable performance class then compete head-on in each race (heat). The faster of the two wins and moves on to the next round. As with the drag racing pros, participants can look forward to an optimally prepared course, professional clocking, an experienced safety crew and an award ceremony for all classes. A racing licence is not required to participate; all you need is a road-approved car or motorcycle and a valid driver’s licence. Detailed information can be found at: www.hockenheimring.de
But that’s not all: from 8 to 11 August 2019, you can also watch Formula Student Germany tuning and driving their cars. Every summer, student teams from all over the world make a pilgrimage to the Hockenheimring to present their self-developed and manufactured formula-style racing cars to an expert jury.
